Scenic Design Contribution
Second stage of Electricidad Scenic background. Abstract mural paintings created on Broadway Flats.
During my work on Electricidad by Luis Alfaro—the reimagined adaptation of Sophocles—I worked on the design and treatment of the stage flats under lead scenic designer Julianna [last name to be added]. They were my primary responsibility—which served as the visual backbone of the production.
The original flats were muted and realistic—concrete tones meant to mirror the street. Onstage, however, they absorbed light and flattened the space. The design shifted toward heightened color and texture, incorporating plakas—a form of Mexican street graffiti historically used to mark territory, identity, memory, and tension, allowing the walls to tell the story alongside the actors.
